Independent Adoption

An independent or private adoption is a non-agency adoption.

This type of adoption is considered a non-agency adoption, and is usually arranged by an attorney, clergyperson or other intermediary.

An independent adoption differs from an agency adoption based on the services provided.  Generally, counseling is not provided for the birthparents to help them consider their adoption decision and pre-placement adoption education is not provided for the adoptive couple.  About half of all infant adoptions nationwide are independent adoptions.

The adoption specialists at the Idaho Youth Ranch can provide the adoption home study–which is required for an independent adoption–as well as ongoing support that includes education and consultation on adoption issues. The Idaho Youth Ranch Adoptions specialists can provide this support, regardless of the type of adoption you choose.
